Rev. Ricky Manalo, CSP – Guest Director, Keynote Speaker & Composition
Rev. Ricky Manalo, CSP, Ph.D. is a Paulist priest, liturgical composer, and author. He is the recipient of the 2018 Pastoral Musician of the Year Award by the National Association of Pastoral Musicians. He studied composition and piano at the Manhattan School of Music, theology at the Washington Theological Union, and liturgy, culture, and sociology at the Graduate Theological Union (GTU), Berkeley, CA.
His music has been sung during the Papal Masses of John Paul II, Benedict XVI, and Francis. More recently, his Mass of Spirit and Grace was the musical setting chosen for Pope Francis’ Eucharistic celebration in the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Feb. 5, 2019. He has written numerous articles and books on liturgy, culture, and liturgical music. He is a member of the North American Academy of Liturgy, the Catholic Theological Society of America, the International Societas Liturgica and NPM (board member, 2008-12).
In 2007, his collaborative hymn, “That All May Be One In Christ,” won the National Hymn Competition of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians (NPM). Fr. Manalo is a theological consulter for the USCCB and co-authored a national pastoral plan for U.S. Asian Pacific Catholics, (Encountering Christ in Harmony, 2018). He remains an advisor to the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Cultural Diversity in the Church and the Committee on Divine Worship, and collaborated on the historical book A Treasured Presence, discussing Filipino Catholics in the United States.
Ian Callanan – Workshop Presenter – Pilgrim People
Ian Callanan is a distinguished Irish liturgical composer whose contributions have profoundly enriched the Catholic Church’s musical tradition. Born in Cork, Ireland, in 1971, Callanan discovered his passion for liturgical music at an early age. His talent and dedication quickly gained him recognition, setting the foundation for a remarkable career.
Deeply influenced by Ireland’s rich musical heritage, Callanan’s compositions seamlessly blend traditional Irish melodies with contemporary harmonies. This distinctive style has made his music widely cherished, not only within Catholic communities but also among secular audiences. His works, often described as both reverent and uplifting, have been performed in numerous languages across Europe and featured in television and radio broadcasts. His music has been sung during the Papal Mass of Francis in Ireland 2018.
Callanan has five recorded and printed collections published by GIA: The Source of Life (G-7222), In Beauty We Walk (G-7220), As Nighttime Falls (G-9614), Ruah: Mass of the Breath of God (G-9822), and Improvisations on Irish Airs (G-10088). Dominic Finn – Rehearsal Sessions & Conducting Breakout Workshop
Director of Music at St Colman’s Cathedral, Cobh directing 3 different choirs there. Dominic has directed choirs who have sung liturgies in Westminster Cathedral, St Peter’s Basilica Vatican, St. Stephen’s Cathedral Vienna, and for the Papal Mass in the Phoenix Park in 2018. Dominic has been a member of the ICMA since 1993, and has served as organist and tutor over the years, as well as being a current Board member.
Thérèse Gaughan – Cantor Breakout Workshop
Thérèse is a graduate of NUIM and St Patrick’s College, Maynooth and holds a Masters in Music Performance from the University of York. She was selected for the first Chamber Choir Ireland Studio for 23/24. Thérèse teaches at Coláiste Nano Nagle, Limerick City and is a regular cantor at St Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina and occasionally at Galway Cathedral. She has represented Ireland at international chant festivals with Schola Gregoriana Maynooth and was a cantor at IEC 2012 and WMOF 2018 in Dublin. She sings with the choirs of Maynooth College and St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway and was previously a choral scholar at Leeds Cathedral.
Orla Barry – Choral Singing Breakout Workshop
Órla Barry is a graduate of University College Dublin and the College-Conservatory of Music, University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. and founder of Cantando. She has worked extensively as a singer, conductor and teacher both here in Ireland and in the United States. She directed Dublin’s famous Palestrina Choir at the Pro-Cathedral for 6 years and has served as guest conductor for Chamber Choir Ireland on several occasions.
